Base Borden’s proximity to the Georgian Bay affect the area’s climate and weather conditions, due to the presence of this huge body of water. Spring is often mild, leading into fabulous long, hot summer weather from the heat of the bay. Warm summers are frequently interspersed with uncomfortable periods of humid air. Autumn is beautiful with the fall colours of changing leaves beautifully painting the rural landscape. Winters can seem long with wind chill effects and heavy snowstorms due to the lake effect, but the outdoor area and mountains bring lots of activities for outdoor enjoyment … for all seasons.

Precipitation in the area can be fairly high (average 1016 mm per year), with more falling in winter as snow than in summer. Borden has the highest snowfall average in southern Ontario with an average of 305 cm of snow per year.

The primary language spoken in the Borden area is English. However, Base Borden is an official bilingual base, and there is a francophone contingent in the area with Francophone organizations located in Barrie.
